The Beginning of ILGM

ILGM was founded on a deep passion for cannabis cultivation. Our journey started in the mid-90s in and around Amsterdam, where our founder, Robert Bergman, first began growing marijuana. What started as small home grows soon expanded into large-scale operations, complete with industrial grow rooms and advanced breeding labs. The love for the plant made it impossible to stay small, and over time, we refined our expertise in every aspect of cannabis cultivation.

The Mission Behind ILGM

Eventually, the time came to step away from professional growing—but that didn’t mean stepping away from the plant. With decades of hands-on experience, Robert knew he couldn’t just walk away from everything he had learned. Instead, he decided to share that knowledge with the world.

That’s how I Love Growing Marijuana was born. What began as a simple blog quickly became a trusted resource for growers everywhere. From seed selection and plant care to harvesting and security, ILGM was built to provide reliable, easy-to-follow guidance on every step of the growing journey.

In 2012, I Love Growing Marijuana (ILGM) was launched with a simple goal—to share expert knowledge and help growers succeed. What started as a blog quickly became a trusted resource for anyone looking to learn the art of cannabis cultivation.

As ILGM grew, we noticed a common question from our readers: “Where can I find quality seeds?” To ensure growers had access to the best genetics, we partnered with top breeders to provide high-quality cannabis seeds. While selling seeds wasn’t part of our original plan, it was a natural next step in supporting growers from start to finish.

Helping you grow successfully means more than just offering seeds—it means providing reliable information, expert guidance, and top-tier customer support every step of the way. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced grower, our mission is to make the process easy, enjoyable, and rewarding.

2012 

Back in the day, ILGM Founder Robert Bergman started his personal home cultivation journey with five plants. After growing as a cultivator himself — working in industrial-sized grows, labs, and large-scale setups — it was time to share his nearly two decades of knowledge with the world’s blossoming cannabis community. With the help of some friends, “I Love Growing Marijuana” was born with a mission to bring cannabis lovers together, provide the best seeds the market has to offer and share resources to produce the biggest and best yields possible. At this time, it was only a blog about growing cannabis, not a store yet!

2015

Around 2015, ILGM took a major step forward by launching an online store, making it even easier for growers to access high-quality seeds and resources. This addition wasn’t just about selling products—it was about spreading the joy of cannabis cultivation to more people around the world. By providing reliable seeds, expert advice, and a supportive community, we empowered both beginners and experienced growers to cultivate with confidence, furthering our mission to make home growing accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

2020

Cannabis home growing has never been more popular. With global lockdowns forcing most of our workforce to work remotely, we had to adapt—and we did so successfully. At the same time, the lockdowns created a surge in home growing, as tens of thousands of people turned to cultivating their own cannabis out of necessity. This shift not only changed the way we work but also reshaped the industry, reinforcing the importance of self-sufficiency and accessibility.

2022

To celebrate 10 years of ILGM, we took the entire global team on an unforgettable trip to Barcelona, Spain! Team members flew in from around the world to connect in person, explore the city with locals, and engage with key figures in the cannabis industry at Spannabis. From exclusive dinners with industry insiders to immersive experiences in Barcelona, it was a milestone celebration to remember!

2024 

ILGM has a brand-new office! As our team continues to grow, we’ve expanded into a new space in Amsterdam, allowing us to collaborate more efficiently and enhance our services. This move reflects our commitment to innovation, bringing our international team together in a dynamic environment where we can better serve our customers and the industry.

2025

Fast forward to 2025 and ILGM is excited to announce the rebranding and relaunch of our digital platform, which will serve as the foundation for the next phase of ILGM’s growth. This upgrade enhances user experience, streamlines our services, and sets the stage for even greater innovations ahead.

Over the past decade, ILGM has grown into a trusted name in cannabis cultivation. What started as a small mission to empower home growers has blossomed into a thriving community of cultivators across the United States. Over the years, we’ve delivered millions of premium seeds, supported countless growers with expert resources, and built a vibrant community of cultivators.

Clare

Customer support is a priority at ILGM, and Clare was the first to answer the call. A real angel with a firm side, Clare ensures things are done right while keeping customers happy. Clare loves Super Silver Haze for its nice body high, energy plus while also good for pain relief.

Sarah isn’t based in the ILGM office in Amsterdam but sits across the big pond in the US. Nevertheless, we love her all the same! Whether she’s participating in 4 different D&D campaigns or singing silly songs to her cat, Sarah can always be found with a bong in hand. Her favorite strain is Zkittlez because it matches her colorful personality and hair!

Ingeborg

Ingeborg is our badass grandma! When she’s not busy with numbers for ILGM she loves to clear her head by hitting the road on her motorcycle (strictly Harley!) and doing intense bootcamp sessions. Jane started smoking Purple Haze when she discovered Jimi Hendrix and never looked back.

Marcella

As Ingeborg was getting more and more busy doing all the finance work, we had to get an extra set of hands aboard. Luckily, Marcella fits the bill perfectly. She’s a real productivity monster in the spreadsheets and her brainpower is unmatched. She prefers keeping focus so her favorite strain is White Widow CBD Autoflower.

Gabriel

Marijuana legislation can be complicated, but Gabriel is always up for the task. A passionate supporter of legalization and home growing, Gabriel writes articles on cannabis and occasionally collaborates with other marijuana enthusiasts.

Peter

Peter won’t rest until he makes another great partnership or deal for ILGM! And when he does rest, he likes to do that by traveling the world and listening to 70s music. Peter is an all-round laid back guy but don’t piss him off because he’s a great boxer! His top pick is Gold Leaf.

Kim

Kim is our finance support angel! She absolutely loves being in the mountains! So when she’s not being creative creating art for ILGM, you can find him skiing, hiking, or floating down the rivers in her boat. Kim likes to make sure she always has some Durban Poison lying around.
