Since California legalized marijuana, there has been more breeders appearing in the state. As can be expected, new hybrids emerge now and then. One of them is Emerald OG.
Bred by California Breeders Association, Emerald OG is mostly Indica plant. One of its parents is the mysterious and elusive Emerald Diesel. Although it appears to have come from the same breeder, there is nothing else published about it. To develop the new hybrid, the breeder chose one of the most potent strains in the OG lineage – Fire OG.
The process did not stop after pairing a carefully selected male Fire OG with a female Emerald Diesel. What the breeder did next is to backcross the offspring with the original male. After five years of painstaking labor, they released Emerald OG.

The strain comes with up to 19% of THC. While it is very potent, its Indica traits trickle in gently. As it begins to manifest, it complements the Sativa effects by uplifting the mood as tensions leave the body. Soon, it induces full body relaxation without causing people to feel lethargic.

Fragrance
Emerald OG is a delightful strain for people who want to chill. Even its fragrance is just as pleasing. It has a pronounced scent of citrus with a floral and earthy backdrop that is not at all overwhelming.
Flavors
The flowery and citrusy fragrance of the strain is also evident in its taste. Upon exhale, it leaves a sweet and citrusy note with a hint of vanilla and pine.
Adverse Reaction
Emerald OG can cause a mild case of dry mouth and dry eyes. Users, though, often do not mind its symptoms. For most, it is a matter of getting used to as these are typical with marijuana use. Furthermore, some people may also feel a slight headache.

One thing to note is that while it only has a small Sativa side, it can still cause a few people to feel anxious. As such, first time users no matter how experienced will want to test it in a small amount before gradually using more in future sessions.

Growing
Emerald OG is a strain that has tapered and almost bullet-shaped thick and dense buds. This variety of marijuana can also sometimes show flashes of purple on its leaves. Growers can influence the purple hue by placing the plant in an environment that is ten degrees lower just before it starts to flower. Combined with the strain’s curled leaves, spring green color, and high volume of rust-colored hairs, it is indeed an eye-catcher.
Growing this strain is very easy whether indoors or outdoors. Hence, it is one of the best hybrids for beginners. One reason is that it is not finicky. Besides being a low-maintenance plant, it is also tolerant of small mistakes. It is prone to bud rot though, so growers will want to make sure there is good air circulation especially when it is planted inside the house.
Flowering Time
Indoors
Like most Indica plants, Emerald OG has a quick flowering period of 8 to 9 weeks. Once ready for harvest, growers can pick up to 12 ounces of buds every square meter.
Outdoors
The best climate for Emerald OG to thrive outdoors is in an environment that is typically the Mediterranean. It begins to flower as it passed the midway point of October. Each plant can also produce up to 12 ounces of buds.
